Schubert_LogoSACRAMENTO, CA – – Deputy District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert today announced her candidacy for District Attorney of Sacramento County, starting her campaign with the support and encouragement of current D.A. Jan Scully, who is not seeking reelection and the endorsements of Sheriff Scott R. Jones and former Sheriff John McGinness.

“The District Attorney’s job is to uphold the law, protect the community and stand up for victims.  As Sacramento County’s next District Attorney I will never waiver from those responsibilities,” said Schubert. “Jan Scully has established our office as one of the finest in the country and I will do everything I can to continue that tradition and to make sure everyone in our county can feel safe in their homes, schools, neighborhoods and workplaces.”

Anne Marie Schubert currently serves as Supervising District Attorney, in charge of the Special Assault and Child Abuse Unit for the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. She has been a prosecutor for 23 years and is a nationally recognized expert on DNA and cold case prosecutions.

“I strongly encouraged Anne Marie Schubert to run for District Attorney,” said Scully. “She is a tough, no-nonsense prosecutor who has dedicated her career to the safety of our citizens and security of our community. Anne Marie has demonstrated tremendous leadership skills in her position as a Supervising District Attorney and I am confident she will be an outstanding leader for our office.

Sheriff Scott R. Jones said: “Anne Marie Schubert is a tough, accomplished prosecutor. As District Attorney, she will be a strong partner with law enforcement as we work together to make Sacramento County safe.”

Former Sacramento County Sheriff John McGinness also announced his endorsement of Schubert.

“Anne Marie has worked diligently to establish strong relationships with law enforcement professionals in Sacramento County,” said McGinness, a law enforcement consultant.  “When special interests threatened California’s death penalty last fall, Anne Marie assumed a leadership role as a criminal justice advocate, providing a voice for those most in need of justice.”

Anne Marie Schubert is a graduate of Saint Mary’s College of California and the University of San Francisco School of Law. She has served as a Deputy District Attorney since 1990, initially in Contra Costa and Solano counties and, since 1996, in Sacramento County.
